Global Project of the Month Mercy Medical Center
“Which of these…would you say was a neighbor?” Jesus asked. The man replied, “The one who showed…mercy.”--Luke 10:36-37 Mercy Medical Center (MMC), a ministry partner of Pioneers, proclaims the love of Christ to the people of Buddhist Cambodia through holistic healthcare. They typically serve 30 patients a day at the Center, and regularly take medical outreach trips into rural areas where healthcare—and more tragically, verbal witness of the gospel—are virtually non-existent. MMC’s ministry is strategic because: - 35% of Cambodians live below the World Bank’s “dollar-a-day” poverty line
- 1 in every 7 children in Cambodia die before they reach their 5th birthday
- Adequate healthcare is inaccessible to most rural Cambodians. 71% of them do not have access to a reliable water source.
- Cambodia ranks below India and Laos on the United Nation’s index of human development
A Pioneers missionary medical doctor who actively serves with MMC writes, “We need ongoing funding to help cover costs of medicines, surgeries and special care.” Would you prayerfully consider assisting them in some way? Gifts of any size will help MMC share Christ with the more than 14 million Cambodians (including Khmer, Cham and other people groups) who have never heard the gospel. If you feel particularly burdened for this work, they are also seeking one-time gifts for basic x-ray equipment ($12,000). At the close of Jesus’ dialogue in Luke 10 quoted above, He says, “Now go and do the same.” Would you be a Good Samaritan to the people of Cambodia today? Click here to give to this project. |
