Team Description
Croatia is a small, proud country separated from the former Yugoslavia twenty years ago by a violent civil war. The people are friendly and generally welcome a spiritual conversation. Life here in Croatia is similar to yours in the States, nice houses, nice cars, stores and the occasional mall. Sophisticated clothing and other trappings of modern life are the norm. On the surface life seems like Mayberry, people riding bikes, many pedestrians, coffee shops on the sidewalks, moms and dads and baby carriages. The cultural differences are there, and interesting, but not extreme.
Ninety percent of Croats are of the Catholic religion although less than fifteen percent are active in church. There is a very tight cultural connection between being Croatian and being Catholic. The challenges of discussing God’s truth in this environment are great, but God has His ways of penetrating these darkened hearts. The scripture is a vital key to shining a light in the darkness of Croatia!
Young people here love to meet Americans, to discuss fashion trends, music, social media. Cell phones, texting, Facebook, email are all part of normal life. Many young people speak English and love to practice it with ‘real people’ so conversations are easy. Family life is close knit and inviting, visitors are welcomed into the family house for dinner and conversation.
The Pioneers Croatia Team’s vision is to support existing churches, to evangelize, and to disciple all with the goal of seeing a church planting movement begin.
As an Edger you are apart of this vision by developing meaningful relationships based on a Christ centered life, breaking down barriers of religion, suspicion of different beliefs, and apathy towards spiritual truths. You will develop relationships that will change their lives and will continue to flourish even after your Edge trip is finished.
